Clapton, Beck, & Page
The Classic Guitars
Compleat Records
1986
This is a 1986 US compilation of the 1968 UK-only Blues Anytime series. These studio sessions featured all of the top British Blues stars of the 60s before they were rock legends: Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, plus John Mayall and many more. The backing band on the Page tracks includes Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts, and Bill Wyman!

Van Halen
Why Can’t This Be Love (7″ single)
Warner Bros Records
1986
30 years ago tomorrow, we first heard Sammy Hagar as a member of Van Halen. This 45 was released on February 26, 1986 about one month before the full 5150 album. The song was a big hit, but the faster and crunchier b-side, “Get Up” was better!

Filter
Hey Man Nice Shot (33 1/3 Single)
Reprise Records
1995
This is one of my favorite records from the 90s, complete with retro-60s-looking cover art!

Cheap Trick
Cheap Trick At Budokan
1979
Epic Records
There are no grooves left on this particular piece of vinyl that I bought when I was 11 years old.

AC/DC
Back In Black
Atlantic Records
1980
My notes on this record: it’s perfect. That is all.
Eric Burdon and the Animals
Eric Is Here
MGM Records
1966
This is actually an Eric Burdon solo record produced between the original Animals and the second incarnation, Eric Burdon and the Animals.

The Allman Brothers Band
Live at the Fillmore East
1971
Capricorn
The original extended jam live album! “Whipping Post” alone was 22 minutes!

The Clash
Black Market Clash
1980
Epic Records / Nu-Disk
This EP was released only in the US and featured B-sides and rarities previously only available as imports. The 10-inch record was part of Epic’s very short-lived Nu-Disk line.

The Concerts for the People of Kampuchea
1979 / Released 1981
Atlantic Records
Dragging out one of my personal faves this week: Concerts for the People of Kampuchea. This 1979 four-night event was organized by Paul McCartney and mixed late 70s British rock royalty like The Who, Queen, Wings, and members of Led Zeppelin with new bands like The Clash, Elvis Costello, The Specials, and The Pretenders. It’s the perfect live album and it’s still not available on CD or digital download!
